UK Student Visa for Moroccan Students: Step-by-Step Guide

Visa Guide 1 April 2026 10 min read

The UK Student Visa (formerly known as Tier 4) is your gateway to studying at a British university. For Moroccan students, the application process is straightforward if you prepare properly and submit all required documents. This guide walks you through every step, from receiving your university offer to collecting your visa.

What Is the UK Student Visa?

The Student Visa allows you to live and study in the UK for the duration of your course, plus a short period before and after. It also allows you to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week during term, full-time during holidays) and brings you under the NHS healthcare system through the Immigration Health Surcharge.

After completing your degree, you can switch to the Graduate Route visa, which allows you to stay and work in the UK for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) without needing a job offer.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for a UK Student Visa from Morocco, you must:

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Get Your CAS From Your University

After you accept your university offer and pay any required deposit, your university will issue a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). This is a unique reference number, not a physical document. Your CAS contains details about your course, fees, and any conditions. You need this number to complete your visa application.

Important: Your CAS is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. You must apply for your visa within this period. Apply as soon as possible after receiving your CAS.

Step 2: Gather Your Documents

You will need the following documents:

Step 3: Meet the Financial Requirement

You must prove you can pay your remaining tuition fees plus living costs for up to 9 months. The current maintenance amounts are:

Studying inMonthly Living Costs9-Month Total
London£1,334/month£12,006
Outside London£1,023/month£9,207

Plus any remaining tuition fees not yet paid. The money must have been held in your bank account for at least 28 consecutive days, with the closing balance dated within 31 days of your visa application. Bank statements must be in English or officially translated.

Common Mistake: Many Moroccan students are refused because their bank statements show irregular deposits or the money hasn't been held for the full 28 days. Make sure the funds are in the account well in advance and remain there consistently.

Step 4: Get Your TB Test

Morocco is on the UK's list of countries that require a TB test. You must take this test at an approved clinic. In Morocco, approved clinics are available in Casablanca and Rabat through the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The test costs approximately £60-£100 and results are usually available within a few days.

Step 5: Complete the Online Application

Apply online at gov.uk/student-visa. You will need to:

  1. Create an account on the UK visa website
  2. Fill in your personal details, passport information, and travel history
  3. Enter your CAS reference number
  4. Provide details about your finances
  5. Pay the visa application fee (£490 from outside the UK)
  6. Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) — £776 per year of your course
  7. Book your biometrics appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VFS Global in Morocco)

Step 6: Attend Your Biometrics Appointment

Visit the VFS Global centre in Casablanca or Rabat to provide your fingerprints and photograph. Bring your passport, appointment confirmation, and all supporting documents. Some documents may be retained temporarily.

Step 7: Wait for a Decision

Standard processing takes approximately 3 weeks (15 working days). You can pay for priority processing (5 working days) or super priority (next working day) if available. You can track your application online.

Your passport will be returned with a vignette (temporary visa sticker) valid for 90 days. Within 10 days of arriving in the UK, you must collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the Post Office branch specified in your decision letter. Your BRP is your proof of immigration status in the UK.
